Las Vegas: Original Television Soundtrack so so i loved elvis, tom jones and bodyrockers (1,6,7,14), the rest i don't even remember, although i've been listening to the CD for two days now (last time 10 minutes ago). should i say the rest of albume is boring? depends on your music taste. i like it a lil harder onthe side of rock, and the three tracks i like reflect that preference. the rest is kinda mushy in my opinion.. it's a good thing you can listen to it on amazon before you buy it.

Lewis & Clark - Original Soundtrack Recording
Great American Music never fades For all of you who have a passion for great American music, and our country's musical heritage, this recording is a must. Ken Burns and Jay Ungar, together with Bobby Horton, have produced a rich soundtrack evoking not only the early 19th century American frontier, but of America's soul. For those of you unfamiliar with Bobby Horton, he is a pioneer in authentically recording the music of the American Civil War, with multiple recordings, on period instruments, of both well-known and obscure gems from the mid 19th century. I highly recommend his recordings as well. Together, he, Ken Burns and the Ungers, as well as several others, have woven a rich tapestry of sound and experience. I encourage everyone to purchase this recording.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Score

Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The ScoreFinally! I've long been aware of Chris Beck, and believe that he is a brilliant composer who gave much of BtVS its emotional heft in S 2-4 and the finale for S 5. Just hearing these wonderful music tracks without the accompanying scenes only confirms my opinion, and some of them move me to tears. Anyone who is a fan of the show, and in particular the Buffy/Angel relationship shouldn't miss this CD. I agree with eveything M. G. Watson has to say about the score and Beck's talents. His use of themes and the way they are developed to suit changes in relationships and situations is masterful, and he often surprises me melodically, rhythmically and harmonically. Then there are the gorgeous melodies... The only selections I would have liked to see included are: - the complete "Close Your Eyes" section. Although I know part of it is on the other BtVS album, it would have been nice to have it included here as a whole. - the Buffy/Angel dream sequence from Amends. A reprise of the theme from Innocence, it's beautifully done in Amends, especially with the celesta-like beginning. - the Buffy/Angel possession scene near the end of IOHEFY. Really captures the feeling of tragic loss and longing between the characters. - how about the Buffy rat theme instead of the alternate version of The Gift's finale? One can't have everything and I shouldn't complain as I've been waiting for this album for a long, long time. I rather think the show started going downhill generally after Beck left and nothing in S 6 or 7 even comes close to his musical achievements (with the notable exception of OMWF, the music of which he realized and orchestrated, I believe).

Music From Peter Gunn

For those of us who are old enough to not forget to remember... Ah, the joys of pre-socially-unconscious television! Todays' TV can be truly called bad, but it was not always thus! The '50s and early '60's had some short-lived, but really good TV, and some GREAT people composing themes and incidental music for them. Henry Mancini's legacy in this genre is without peer and prolific - Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky are just two examples. His place in cinematic history is solid as well, with "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Elephant Walk", and many other great works in his repertoire. This album shows him at his best in his favorite form - cool jazz.
As a '50s brat, I watched Peter Gunn as much for the post-episode jazz sets as for the plot, and not just for the theme - everyone's heard that! It's great to hear these masterpieces in Hi-Fi (what stereo USED to be called), instead of out of the speaker from our old Sears black-and-white set, or off of some old LP, complete with scratches.
If you like cool jazz, this is one of the best. The Peter Gunn theme is legendary, but pieces like "The Brothers Go to Mother's" and "Fallout" will bring back that feeling of real artistry - and you'll expect to see a cigarette commercial break somewhere. "Slow and Easy" is one of those old-style blues pieces that's understated, but oh-so good!
So, let's break out the frozen TV dinner, pull up the bean bags, and remember when music on TV was actually GOOD.
Heavens to... Murgatroyd!

Music For The Native Americans

Music For The Native AmericansListen, impress your friends, take it to test speakers In 1994, Robbie Robertson was commissioned to write the soundtrack for the television program, "The Native Americans." He did not undertake this project alone. Among the Native artists recruited were: Ulali, The Thundercloud Singers and Douglas Spotted Eagle. The result was this album, which is part Native American, New Age, rock, and all masterpiece.
Listen to the tracks if you need a little peace, inspiration, or you just want something different and beautiful. Every song has its own message and appeal. As always, I'm going to mention a few favorite songs, but seriously, they are all good: "Coyote Dance", "It's a Good Day to Die", and "Ghost Dance" are the three I have repeated most, but that will probably change.
Let your friends hear. I've already sold a copy to my best friend, who was ready to head out to the local record store to find it.
Take it with you when you audition new stereo systems. There's a lot here to challenge your ears and your audio equipment.

You Can Let Go

You Can Let Go Shawanda's "Dawn" Bright But Lacks Originality Prime Cuts: You Can Let Go Now, Tender Side, Your Cheating Heart
One of the glorious advancement of country music is the expansion of its racial boundaries. Of late, country radio has embraced African-American Rissi Palmer and now we have Native American Shawanda being signed to a major label in Nashville. For starters, Shawnda is a born full-blooded Ojibwe on the Wikwemikong reserve on Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. Apparently her last name means "dawn of a new day," which has been capitalized here as the album title and track. With such a weal of cultural heritage, one would wish Shawanda or producer Scott Hendericks could weave more of her background into the texture and fabric of these songs giving her an edge over the countless newbies Nashville churns out each year. Rather, Shawanda has chosen the tried route of releasing another cookie cutter country pop offering that the Hills, Rimes and McBrides are putting out. Vocally, Shawanda isn't a laureate; though it'll be fair to say she does have a full-bodied range that just the right grit to command one's attention assiduously.
Given that this is a Nashville pop-country CD, there are still a few shiny moments: most deserving of mention is the lead single "You Can Let Go Now." A tearjerker of a ballad,

"You Can Let Go Now" chronicles the precious moments in a girl's life whereby her daddy has to painfully let her go. Shawanda's slightly gravel vocals with just the right cracks is the perfect vehicle to carry the heartfelt emotions of this gorgeous song. Given that the CD consists mostly of rousers, the gentle 70s styled balladry of "Tender Side" is welcomed. Most telling is the opener "Evolution," a biographical tale of the musical influences that have helped shape Shawanda. Interestingly, Shawanda name drops Patsy Cline and Aretha Franklin as her influences. Definitely echoes of the Queen of soul can be heard on the bluesy "What Do I Have to Do" which tells of a woman desperately trying to get her hubby's attention in a tepid relationship.
Most familiar to country fans would be Shawanda's take of Hank Williams' "Your Cheating Heart." Shawanda's almost Kim Carnes-like growl and her in-your face confrontational demeanor actually works, giving this classic an august read so befitting of its lyrics. However, the rest of the CD verge on the ordinary. Surrounding with cascading guitars and pounding drums, "I Need a Man" is as insightful as the title suggests. Despite the delightful banjo picking opening lines of "You Can't Take It Back," the song quickly morphs into one of those non-descript pop anthems.
By falling into the temptation of trying to secure singles ready to be embraced by radio, "Dawn of a New Day" becomes pretty predictable. Yet what is most infuriating is Shawanda's background and her experiences are enough to spurn album loads of songs that could make her a name of her own. Nevertheless, as a Nashpop CD, there are its moments. Good but not essential.

Don't You Know You're Beautiful

Don't You Know You're BeautifulKellie Rocks Another One Out of the Park! Great positive upbeat rockin' song and message! Buy it and tell all your friends! I also recommend Kellie's debut album, Small Town Girl, and her sophomore album when it's available in September. I've already heard a few songs at concerts at they are fantastic! Kellie is one of the best country artists! Go to her myspace and send a friend request for updates!

Getting a dog

A wonderful score...a wonderful cast! I purchased this for my 4 year old grandaughter after she had seen the stage play and wanted to learn all of the songs. We love to sing them...the step-sisters' lament which is very funny, "Impossible" and (her version) "A Luddly Night". A great introduction to musical theater for little people.
Gorgeous Music! Simply beautiful. While the 66 production is pleasant as well, and Leslie Ann Warren is not Julie Andrews (who is?), she is lovely in her own right and it does preserves R&H's wonderful music. The Whitney Houston production, while a misfire, at least is a valiant attempt to keep R&H alive, and brought to a whole new generation, on that score , Bravo! But the original is sublime, even if the recently re-released TV production is difficult to watch due to the technological values of the day, the B&W picture is grainy and distorted, no matter, it's all about the glorious music.

Grey's Anatomy Volume 3

Grey's Anatomy Volume 3Great soundtrack, arrived promptly This soundtrack is amazing, its in my car cd right now. The rest of the songs completely make up for the fact that i dont like track 1 and knew i wouldnt. Would have liked to see some regina spektor on there, but ill live.
Disappointing . . . I loved the first season's soundtrack. The second season had some great songs too. But, this third season has fallen short of expectations. Although there are a handful of songs that I love I don't listen to this volume nearly as much as the others.

3DOORS DOWN ROCKS

3DOORS DOWN ROCKS! I RECENTLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THIS BAND LIVE AND I HAVE TO SAY, THEY ARE EVEN BETTER LIVE THAN THEY ARE ON CD!!! THIS IS THE BEST CD THEY'VE DONE SO FAR. I RECOMMEND THIS CD TO ANYONE WHO IS A FAN OF 3DOORSDOWN, OR EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT!!

Song remains the same

Great music. Just the way it should be! In '89 when I was just a wee lad I went and saw The Replacements without having heard any of their music before. That concert just blew me away. I was disappointed when I later bought that tour's corresponding album - Don't Tell A Soul - finding it over-produced, and missing the raw magic of The Replacements live sound. Westerberg went solo a couple of years later, and every time I heard those albums, I would say to myself - get thee to a 4 track! Paul just didn't sound right with glossy production, never capturing that early 'Mats magic or their live raw energy. Well, good news, the Wilderness Years are over!
The last several releases have seen a resurgence of what I consider the true Westerberg sound - mostly because he has been hitting the magic bottle called "Lo Fi Recording" ...and what sweet sounds they be!
Get this song. Locate the now suppressed 49:00. Get 3oclockreep! Get 5:05! We are in a RENAISSANCE people. It started with Come Feel Me Tremble and continues here with these all digital releases. Hopefully Paul is making a good cut off these and finally reaping financial reward from what has been one of the most rewarding music careers of the last 3 decades!

Black Winged Bird
hauntingly lovely ahhh, the Cardigans, no wonder why. Beautiful song, lovely haunting voice, like Nina Gordon.
Just lovely Nina Persson is the lead singer of the Swedish band the Cardigans and her instantly recognizable voice gives this beautiful track a lovely bittersweetness.
Get it while it's free! A lovely voice, a great song, and right now it costs nothing. If the RIAA were more interested in releasing great music than suing customers, this song would have already received significant airplay.

Love Remains The Same
For those who have grown and now have a family .... Like any artist ... they want to grow and explore other parts of their mind and heart. This is a very good song ... and yes it is a softer side of GAVIN ROSSDALE. Cause I honestly wasn't looking for more BUSH music. I liked the duo but ... I'm sure like Gwen did ... she did her own thing and put out a bit of NO DOUBT and then went back to her solo music.
I like his new music and there are a few other tracks that aren't as "soft" as this one. Explore and enjoy.
Song remains the same Marriage and fatherhood have softened up Bush's front man, Gavin Rossdale. "Love remains the same" is a departure from Gavin's formerly punk rock sound. It's the sort of song one expects when radio stations have their "Between the sheets, after 8 pm on weeknights." It wouldn't be out of place on a New Age/smooth jazz station.
"Love remains the same" is a pleasant, rather boring song about...love in everyday life. One can hear that Gavin's lyrics draw their inspiration from his day-to-day life with Gwen Stefani, No Doubt. It's nice to hear a song about fidelity, still being in love when the initial flush of passion has worn off, and finding joy in the mundane. Still, it doesn't have to be so... dull. Gavin sounds at times like another Sting. Since his wife is renowned as a gay icon, one wonders if his "Love remains the same" will be a staple at same-sex nuptials for couples who have been together for years before making it legal. The song remains the same, for better or worse.

Holler Back

Holler Back
Back by The Lost Trailers Holler Back is a song that everyone that has a little "down-home" in them should love. Give it a listen and you'll love it.
Great music, great guys! This is the winner for the Lost Trailers! It is great to hear great showmen on the radio!

She Never Cried In Front Of Me

Gunpowder & Lead
LOVE this song! This is one of those songs that truly makes a woman feel empowered!
It is not a song that you take literally, meaning, go out and shoot your lover with the nearest shotgun with a cigarette hanging out of your mouth! Instead it suggests that a woman does NOT have to be a victim of any sort; she can be strong and stand up for herself in any way necessary. In my opinion it says that women are not just made of "sugar and spice and everything nice"! There is much more depth and layers to each woman God created!
In much of Miranda's songs and lyrics, she has the ability to touch your soul while at the same time making you want to jump up and sing! A very talented artist that I personally can't wait to see what is coming next!
This is one of my favorites from this very gifted artist who writes and sings powerful songs that show women from all walks of life how they can be just a little bit stronger and independant while still being ALL woman!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Showcases his awesome talent! I knew the first instant I heard this song that it would be great! I am so glad that Toby has come out with and released to radio a powerful, addictive song like this. Other than "Love Me If You Can" Toby hasn't come out with a serious, touching, moving song in a while. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the sense of humor he employs in his music; however, it is songs like this that you hear the passion in his voice when he sings and he makes you remember why he is such a great country musician. If this song is any indication of what his next album holds, then I am really looking forward to it.

When You Say Nothing At Al

A truly beautiful song I can only echo the other reviewer: the voice of an angel, and such a beautiful song. Whenever I hear it, our 11 year marriage feels a little more recent. :-) This is a wonderful love song.

Gotta love this little lady The face of an angel and a voice to match. I have yet to hear a voice as pure and sweet as Alison's. This cover of Keith Whitley's hit just leaves you with chills.

Every Day

Does not fall Flatt Rascal Flatts new song, Every Day is an amazing and beautiful song. I can never get enough of their music, whether it rocks or is a nice slow song like this one.

Mayday (M'aidez)

Don't Judge By The Short Preview Attention all modern rock fans! I've never heard of this group, either, but don't let that short preview make you pass over what this group has to offer. Through the 'wall of noise' production on "Mayday", there is a melody...and yes, even a hook chorus hiding behind all of the electronica type keyboards, distorted guitars and the drum machine. The lead vocalist can sing and he has a great tone to his voice. Check out the rest of the album because there's variety there and good songs to consider downloading. Part of the 4 stars I am giving it is for that reason...check out the group!

GfC

A must for fans of the Strokes! This song is everything a Strokes/Albert fan could want after a great debut album. Leaves plenty to be desired, but doesn't leave the listener disappointed

Disappointed

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Disappointed I was a great fan of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe score, so was very much looking forward to this release. Unfortunately, i'm pretty disappointed. One of the reasons I enjoyed the original score so much was for it's calm, celtic-like melodies in the first half or so of the score. This score has a similar layout, but it focuses a lot more on the battle/action tracks, which i'm not particularly fond of. I can completely understand why this is the case, as the film is a lot darker than the first and i've heard it contains a lot more action. This would be great if these tracks weren't so repetitive, sounding like the typical Media Ventures action cues we've heard so many times before. And even by the half way point these tracks start to drag, and the overall feel is that of hope for an original track some time soon.
However, perhaps for someone new to the genre and not having heard the first (a lot of the music on this CD sounds like rehashes of tracks from the first, which I guess is fair enough considering it is of course the same series of films) they would find a lot to enjoy here. There still are some great tracks, the first 4 or so are a great listen. However, for me, after that is just gets repetitive and boring.
It also dosn't help having read before hand, this may or may not be true, that the composer - Harry Gregson-Williams was bored himself when composing the score. It definately shows.

Celtic Woman

Beautiful music My wife and 4-year old daughter love this music, too. We've been to see the group in concert - well worth the money.
celtic music I am sceptic of what people call celtic music today but this cd of celtic woman brings out the true celt in us all.If you enjoy the sounds of the celtic artist Enya then you will enjoy this cd.

All-Time Top 100 TV Themes

Good variety, fine quality I know others have commented on the less-than-stellar production values of this compilation, but I think they're fine. The collection of songs is great, and even though at first I wasn't thrilled about the newer stuff, we've come to love those as well. This is a great collection to listen to with the whole family. I think it would be difficult to find a comparable compilation for a similar price. Good value.
Hard To Please Everyone The fact that this has generated over 30 reviews to date, ranging from 5 stars to 1, indicates that it's impossible to please everyone when putting this kind of project together. In one respect I can sympathize with those who were hoping to get full versions of some of the tunes, especially those that were good enough to produce hit singles - some of them smash hits - and so felt compelled to award just 1 or 2 stars. I have less sympathy for those who bemoan the sound "quality" since, as one reviewer has pointed out, many are soundtrack bytes and some of that 60s and 70's TV had pretty dismal sound.
The way I look at it, these are memory-joggers and this is a CD that can be hauled out and played at a party or family gathering to see how many can recognize the series they came from. Did they miss some obvious ones? Well, in a word, "yes" with some that come to mind at once being The Themes from - - Ben Casey, a # 28 hit in 1962 for Valjean; Dr. Kildare [Three Stars Will Shine Tonight], a # 10 in 1962 for star Richard Chamberlain; Dynasty, a # 52 in 1982 for Bill Conti; and The Dukes Of Hazzard [Good Ol' Boys], a # 21 in 1980 for Waylon Jennings.
But while this 2-CD set is fun, I too would like to see a similar set offering the full versions of those that went on to become hit singles, including the ones just mentioned and these which became Top 10 hits: Theme From The Greatest American Hero (Believe It Or Not), a # 2 in 1981 for Joey Scarbury; Theme From Hill Street Blues, a # 10 in 1981 for Mike Post, who also had hits with The Theme From Magnum P.I. (# 25 in 1982)and The Rockford Files (# 10 in 1975); Theme From S.W.A.T. by The Rhythm Heritage (# 1 in 1976); Miami Vice Theme by Jan Hammer (# 1 in 1985); Welcome Back (from Welcome Back, Kotter) by John Sebastien of The Lovin' Spoonful (# 1 in 1976); Happy Days by Pratt & McClain (# 5 in 1976); and Hawaii Five-O by The Ventures (# 4 in 1969).
Others that made the Billboard charts in the lower regions include: I'll Be There For You (from Friends) by The Rembrandts (# 17 in 1995); Where Everybody Knows Your Name (from Cheers) by Gary Portnoy (# 83 in 1983); Moonlighting Theme by Al Jarreau (# 23 in 1987); Theme From My Three Sons by Lawrence Welk (# 55 in 1961); Theme From Charlie's Angels by Percy Faith & His Orchestra (# 49 in 1977); WKRP In Cincinnati by Steve Carlisle (# 65 in 1981); Making Our Dreams Come True (from Laverne & Shirley) by Cyndi Grecco (# 25 in 1976); The Song From M.A.S.H. (Suicide Is Painless) by Al DeLory & His Orchestra (# 70 in 1970); Those Were The Days (from All In The Family) by Carroll O'Connor & Jean Stapleton (# 43 in 1972); and Batman Theme, a hit for both The Marketts (# 17) and Neal Hefti & His Orchestra (# 35) in 1966.
I've probably overlooked a few, but the point is, they could easily come up with a 2-CD volume containing just the hit versions.
Both the CD's and the insert are filled with vintage TV sets, and inside you get a re-listing of the contents showing composers, performers, and the running length of the series concerned for each track.

I STILL cant find the song I DID order. Anybody can help with this? Im going in circles here. Secondly, the song was annoying at first hear but its a positive message and kindda "poppy". Cross between old Beatles music and Alternative rock. least its not filled with suicide, violence and cursing. I will be looking into the group and if this was meant as a promo, not a bad idea. Agaion, AMAZON, a little warning next time before you just dump something on them. You NEED to make your uploading process easier. This is getting to be too much work for too little. I may stick to iTunes

Saving Grace

Saving Grace Driving. A good "old' song that gets you off your butt and 'drives' you away to another space/time. At 60 years old I realy like Everlast. Bye

Angel Toes

Angel Toes is a fun, catchy song. The instrumentation gives the melody an almost 70's pop feel, yet it doesn't feel sappy or overdone. It's got a nice hook and it leaves room for you to sing along with it. I'd recommend this one.
Pleasant Pop This is a pleasant pop song with an upbeat tempo. I think it is best for teen listeners. The lyrics are cute but simple, and the performances and production values show room for improvement. Not bad, just not ready for the big time yet.

Perfectly Clear

Better than the last few I became a Jewel fan immediately upon hearing the Pieces of You cd. I have yet to hear a cd from Jewel that matches the beauty of that cd or the range of her voice. I haven't cared for the cds that she's released since then and keep hoping for one as good as Pieces of You. This cd is the closest one to her original style although she has alot of country nuances. Her voice is clear and nice to listen to, but the songs lack the deep emotions of the first cd. All of songs are love songs but lack true emotion in their presentation. All in all, it's a decent cd, good for listening to in the car when stuck in traffic. But I'm still waiting for a cd that is as good as Pieces of You (minus Adrian, which was unlistenable).

For Emma, Forever Ago

I will admit, the very first time I heard him sing; I was a little thrown off by his style and use of falsetto. However, that was one of the most magnificent live performances I have ever witnessed and I've seen everyone from Lou Reed to the Locust. The music is incredibly driven and soulful. I've heard the claims (and this kind of back and forth riff-raff occurs with every up and coming 'indie' artist) that it's just overrated fake-folk. Maybe it's fake-folk and maybe it's not, but genre titles just aren't enough to put down some of the great thing s that are going on in the 'indie' world right now, in this case with Bon Iver.
I can't make too many, 'If you like...then you will like Bon Iver" type statements. Many albums are as enjoyable as you want them to be. If you are at all familiar with Jagjaguwar Records or just picked up the new Fleet Foxes album or maybe your girlfriend/boyfriend made you a mixtape and you want to hear more of this sort bare bones acoustic masterpiece, then check out this CD. If you have the capability, buy the LP (comes with free download). You may be sorry, and, if so, you can whine like the others, but I'm pretty sure you'll dig it!

The Cheetah Girls 2

Latin with a Cheetahlicious Twist! The Cheetah Girls just seem to be getting better and better. Their voices sound much stronger, and they each compliment each other in every song.
I love how they incorporated Latin beats in both the movie and soundtrack. I enjoy every song on this track, the lyrics are positive, and it sends out great messages of friendship.
I feel they should have included Raven in the Barcelona Mix of "Cheetah Sisters". Adding Belinda to the songs was also a nice twist to the Cheetah Songs.
Once you buy this for your kids (or yourself!) You won't wanna stop listening. Great buy.
Even More Cheetah-licious Than The Original! I love this soundtrack! Basically, Raven, holds this whole album together! She produced many of the songs on this soundtrack like "Party's Just Begun," "Strut," and more! This album is definitely fun for sleepovers, and if you want to listen to uplifting, and fun music

Music From The Motion

"Once" the Film Unexpected, brilliant, and always something different than you'd expect. Loved this without planning to even like it, as I don't like "musicals," but in this case the word doesn't apply. It's full of music, it's about music, but it is not a musical.
Great soundtrack Often when I see a film and like the soundtrack, I'm disappointed in the CD. Not so in this case - I loved the film, and the CD brings it all back when I listen. One complaint is that the volume has to be turned *way* up in order to hear it - then when the changer switches to the next CD it's much too loud, but I can live with it.
Wonderful soundtrack album, hauntingly beautiful songs! I read about this film and the beautiful music that created the foundation of the plot. I watched the film twice and couldn't get the songs out of my head! I had to buy the soundtrack, and I have really enjoyed the songs, particularly those by Glen. Such talented songwriters, with beautiful harmonies, and so much emotion. If you like folk or singer/songwriter music, you will love this album.

You & Me

I knew you when I was young... I am pleased that The Walkmen released this collection, and invited me in to share their music, interpreting it how I please. For me, this release sounds incredibly close, something that seems familiar, that's been around for a while, yet simultaneously completely new and unique. The music seems sparse but at the same time small, tight, and deep with purpose. What sounds like a lyric of despair elicits a sense of hope.
Stripped Down... I loved the grandiose, late-night epic production of the walkmen of much of their earlier work. They kept it simple at times, but at many points they erupted into all out noise-rock. This is the Walkmen at their most bare, melancholy, and oddly laid-back sounding. It also sounds amazing! They will never match the intensity and sheer audacity of their debut work, however this may be a close second. A Hundred Miles Off was fascinating work, i absolutely loved the latin influences and the ispiration of Bob Dylan felt on that album. But for dark, late-night barroom jams for the brokenhearted, this album has them in spades. If in a bad mood, this depressing album will strangely make you feel better, as if pleasantly aware of your depressive state. This album is very hard to categorize, and very surprising. It really will make you think your life over, and reevaluate your feelings. It is an epic masterpiece, and evidence that there is no end in sight for the Walkmen.
It's going to be a good year "It's going to be a good year," so says lead singer, Hamilton Leithauser, and is in essence an exclamation from The Walkmen on "In The New Year" from their latest release. "You & Me," their stellar fourth effort is the most cohesive and impressive release they have attempted yet. This is without a doubt the best collection of songs from this band since their beginning on "Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone." This has been the album I have been waiting for The Walkmen to produce.
Seriously, this album is a true gem. "In The New Year" is just gorgeous and my personal favorite--good, god, the organs! The album starts off gritty and grabs your full attention with the bass heavy "Donde Esta La Playa." "On The Water" is very atmospheric and the vocals just carry the listener higher to bliss until it all explodes in a very exciting ending. "Red Moon" is a soft song and is just thoroughly beautiful, particularly the use of horns. "Four Provinces" features some very hypnotic percussions. "Canadian Girl" has some excellent piercing guitar melodies.
This album is successful in many categories. I couldn't find a song I didn't enjoy nor an aspect of The Walkmen's playing that didn't captivate me. The guitars are sonic, droning and blissful. The drums pound, thump and incite my feet to stomp in pattern. The crooning is likely the best Leithauser has shown us yet--very moving. And the bass is just completely soothing. If you haven't been a fan of The Walkmen yet, be prepared to be.

Best soundtrack I've ever had!

Best soundtrack I've ever had! I think this is the best soundtrack i've ever had. It has 18 songs, each different then the last. I believe every song has been in an episode of the show. Some of my favorites include "I quit", "lucky" "virgin state of mind" and "nothing but you".
The songs fit very well with the show and are great for everything else. Some of my all time favorite music. An amazing soundtrack for an amazing show!
For Buffy the Vampire Slayer Fans My girlfriend loves her Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so she loves this CD. If you were a fan of the Buffy series then this is a must own.
Takes you back to the episodes Listening to the cd takes you back to some of the episodes of Buffy. Enjoyable cd to listen too.

Don't Think I Don't Think About It

A pleasant surprise Despite all my paternal grandmother's efforts, I'm just not into country. Over the years, I've sung along with the occasional Dixie Chicks or Daughtry song, but that's it. I'm not a Hootie fan either (though Rucker's not hard on the eyes). But I was pleasantly surprised by this song.
Way to go, Darius! From a fan from long ago...back from the days at Univ of SC where Hootie & the Blowfish played cover songs at Green Street's and frat parties, etc... way to go. Love it! I have missed hearing you. Keep it up. Go Gamecocks! ;->
Talent + I sing Country, and have had requests for "Hootie" so I listened. I thought to myself, "this guy could do well in country with some steel & fiddles". And he did. I'm especially pleased because it shows that real talent can cross genres. I congratulate him on his efforts and hope to hear more of him. Mo, Arizona

So What (Main Version) [Explicit]

Always keepin it simple! not only is she keeping it simple she's also keeping it true to her style, only thing she used to be so versatile i wonder what happened she used be a great dancer i wonder if she'll make that kind music she made when she first came out. love the song anyway
So This When it comes down to Pink, this past year has been a tough one for her, with her breakup with her sports skater husband, she shows a much-more tongue and cheek approach to showing she is still standing, unlike Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears who've shown that they have crashed and burned much further in their careers and their personal lives. So What, the first single from her upcoming 5th album Undecided isn't a bad song, and brings in the feelings with depth and strength. While the song isn't as strong as her earlier songs, the well-showcased Stupid Girls, or Don't Let Me Get Me, it still shows she is trying to survive, and not let her get herself pushed all the way down. Hopefully, when her record comes out, she'll drive the feeling all the way home.
Song: C 1/2+
Catchy but the riffs during the chorus are overly-blaring. And that makes it loud and hurtful on the ears, if you were to use ear buds.
Still, it's a fun song, not ground-breaking or anything but funny all the same. It makes you wonder though: which way is Pink gonna go on her next outing?
I can't fathom what the end result will be but I'm sure it'll still be rock-oriented.
Overall, a decent effort.
3.5 stars.
end note: At first it seems silly but after you give it a few plays it gets better. Also, as a fan I'm actually sad that her and her ex-hubby couldn't work things out...he divorced her in February of this year.

FATE

Why it's significant: On Fate Dr. Dog expands their old sound framework, layering it with notes from the indie-pop playbook: great hooks, contemplative lyrics, and moments of warbling psychedelia. They indulge in off-limit rock taboos like raw Let It Be vocals, three-part harmonies, ballsy guitars, and tightly wound drums brought to prominence by bands like the Beach Boys, Neil Young, and the Beatles, all without a shred of irony. Everything old is new again and nothing is left to chance.

Bleeding Love

I really liked this song at first... but OY the bass line!! I liked this song just fine at first. But what's the deal with the bassline? I had it playing and I thought I blew my speakers, until I realized it was just the way the song sounded. Now, I can't get it out of my head, and it has ruined my enjoyment of the song.
Good hook. Lewis' vocal is point on. The hooks are great within this track. I deduct points for the incessant lyrical content. The songwriting is just poor, the vocals are great.

Better In Time

Talent, actual talent Yes, this woman truly has talent. This track is a swooning, almost calypso beat, sound that truly entertains the ears. The instruments are full, yet so is Lewis' voice. It is a great song to close your eyes and be whilred away. Another time, a place where pop stars truly have talent and don't require a vocoder to sound pleasant. This woman is a great songstress. The songwriters should be applauded as well.
Mariah Called, She Wants Her Song Back The proclaimed future of modern pop has struck again, and this time it isn't the instant sensation that was "Bleeding Love" nor is it the inspirational ballad of "Footprints In The Sand." Nope, instead she gives us some background music, which may sound in with the times, but comes off as little more than a smooth radio-friendly sap fest.
Musically, you can tell from the review title that the new Mariah is clearly musical fan of the old Mariah. But the not-so deep point here is that it could basically be sung by pop goddess, which doesn't differentiate this song from the rest of the competition.
So if you love Leona, love modern music, love smooth pop/R&B tunes, and love "safe" music, than welcome to the party. But it holds little more than background music for me, because it doesn't really doesn't try to be anything more. Like some countries in the Olympics, some are just satisfied with OK. The goal here is clearly a Grab N' Dash.
Almost As Better Through Time Undoubtingly, when it comes down to the so-called "It Girls", most of them are really more about the hype like Rihanna, Jordin Sparks, and the divas that seem to miss out for their songs by being flimsy and cheap. As for Leona Lewis, I am very impressed with the depth of not just her voice, but the songs that she has shown with style and heart. They really don't feel like they are overexposed. Her second single, Better In Time, from her debut album Spirit, really isn't a bad song. The feeling here is a bit more somber with heart, unlike Bleeding In Love, but the song really sounds very well handed. I hope Leona keeps that songstress style coming, she really is the best thing out there right now, and that is better with time.

7 Things

Can't Sing Miley can't sing but they sure know how to promote her. I'm sure she won't be around to much longer....thank goodness.
It's better than I thought it'd be. Even though it's kinda all over. But when she says, "And the seven things I hate the most that you do, you make me love you." you get sucked in.
And the lyrics aren't that bad, really. The craziness of the chorus is take it or leave it really. But the ending, "OO ooo oo oo's" are awesome.
If you haven't heard this song yet then where have you been?
3.75 stars.
end note: I'm a pop fan so this song was enjoyable, overall.
Your children will thank you for this! I admit, I'm not a big fan of the music. However, as a parent, sometimes we yield to our children's wishes. My kids love Miley Cyrus and identify with the Hannah Montana character. If anything, this is nice, clean, and fun entertainment for the young ears. Getting the music for them will make you the coolest parent (for a brief minute) and satisfy their wishes until the next pop superstar comes along. If you don't get it for you, be sure to download it for them!

A little bit longer

Amazing A little bit longer is an amazing song, the jonas brothers have made another amazing song.
Neosenephrin The overtly nasal vocals on this track cause the listener to negate the playing of said song prior to it's conclusion. I do not understand how such "bands" get signed: It could NOT be from vocal talent. This type of N'Syncish vocal should be left for the karaoke bars.
DONT WAIT A LITTLE BIT LONGER!!! EXCELLENT! THE JONAS BROTHERS DO IT AGAIN!!! AMAZING SONGS ON THIS AMAZING CD! EVEN IF YOU ARENT A FAN......YOU WILL BE! YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT THE SONGS CANNOT BE CATEGORIZED! THEY ARE ONE OF A KIND! THE SONG A LITTLE BIT LONGER IS BRILLIANT! IT RELATES TO EVERY SITUATION YOU CAN THINK OF!!DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THIS!!

This Is The Life

There's definitely a reason why Macdonald is 2x platinum Lyrically, the album is superb. And the rhythms of the songs flow together with Macdonald's words in ways that seem almost perfect. Almost perfect is way better than perfect in this case. Her almost perfect delivery allows for some measure of authenticity to project in the sounds, regardless of the amount of post-processing that presumably went into the recording of the album.
There is admittedly some "sameness" to the tracks, especially "This is the Life" and "Let's Start a Band." But the album has a collectiveness, a completeness to it because such similarities exist. An album in my view should have such a sort of unity to it. Otherwise it can seem scattered. Is this worth the price? Absolutely. "Youth of Today" can easily cover the value of the whole package. Consider what the impact that single alone must have in a live setting. Scotland's finest at work here.

Long Way Down (Album Version)

Great CD!!!! If you're a goo goo dolls fan you need to get this album and if you're not a fan yet this CD will make you one.
Not Quite the Begining Decent track off the the Goo's 1995 album "A Boy Named Goo" which had the megasmash hit "Name" also on it. A pretty good representation of the Goo's in mid 90's form with crunchy guitars and John's soaring vocals. If you like this song, I'd also suggest "Eyes Wide Open" from the same record. --Jw.
Cool Track This is a cool rockin' track and a great intro song for people not familiar with the Goo Goo Dolls.
A solid, fun to listen to rocker

Nineteen Eighty-Eight was a huge year for Aussie rock. There was this album by INXS, Midnight Oil's Diesel and Dust, and The Church's Starfish. But seeing as I was already familiar with INXS and not the other two bands, this was the recording that was first on my "must buy" list, and it came out right at the beginning of '88."Guns in the Sky" is a powerful kick-start to the album, INXS' foray into socially conscious music. But thankfully they left most of that to bands like Midnight Oil. INXS was a party band first and foremost. Side one is top heavy with their hit singles, "New Sensation," "Devil Inside" and "Need You Tonight." The latter song is obviously the song the band is best remembered for, but the former two tracks are great guitar rock songs. "Devil Inside" especially has a great hook and also has some social insight. These six guys were great songwriters and musicians, and Michael Hutchence had a perfect pop voice."Mediate" is a captivating play on rhyme. Somehow the words all fit, managing to be a commentary on politics, society and your personal worldview. To me it matches R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know It" and Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire." The next single from Kick was on side two, "Never Tear Us Apart," a smart ballad. INXS even tried their hand at early rap-rock on "Calling All Nations." All in all a superb album.

Juno

Random Humming? This CD only had a few good songs. The rest of it, such as a track consisting entirely of random humming, was unprofessional and not the least bit entertaining. The movie was funny and held my attention, however the soundtrack was a sad disappointment.
A great listen! I love these natural, ordinary, rambling, breathless, profound songs. Some of them really surprize you with their depth. Others just make you smile.
Different in a good way. Watching the movie leaves you wanting more...so having the sound track is the closest thing. If you loved the quirky plot and excellent acting, you'd love the weird, rough-around-the-edges music, which was the amusing background to the story line. I also liked the bits of information given inside the CD cover.

Wonderful Music Love It. Bought two CD's for the car and home. If you loved the movie you will enjoy the CD.
EXCITING This was a fun movie with unexpected singing from some of my favorite actors/actresses. Some parts were very hysterical. An absolutely joyful experience. In fact the music was so lively, I bought the soundtrack. FUN, FUN, FUN
FEEL GOOD Uplifting!!! You can't help tapping your feet, moving to the music and just feeling good, "All Over Your Body."

High School Musical 2

So fun!! This soundtrack is so fun. It's a great summer CD to have and celebrate having fun.
All types of sounds. Nothing repetitive. The best kid/teen CD around. Having listened to endless kid/tween/teen CDs over the years, I can honestly say this one is by far the best. Each song is completely different so you don't feel like you are hearing the same song over and over again. I don't mind the Hannah Montana CDs but after a while the songs all seem to run together in my head. Maybe it's because there are several different artists singing. Every song is catchy and for the most part very upbeat so it makes drives so much more enjoyable for me and the kids.
If you are trying to choose between HSM, Hannah, Jonas Brothers, etc., I'd highly suggest picking this one!
Robbie Nevil Bought for kids they love it. But You should check out Robbie Nevil's Music very nice mix of R&B and Rock

Little Voice

Love this CD!!! Sara Bareilles is wonderful! I enjoy every track, and every time I listen...I hear something new!! She is an amazing artist. Take a moment, and listen to "Little Voice". I'm sure you will find out as I have how great it is to buy a CD and actually enjoy every song!!! Don't let the title fool you, there is nothing little about Sara Bareilles' voice!!
Addictive! All I can say is WOW. This girl can sing, and what's more she can write and play. Do yourself a favor and get this CD. Just remember though, I am not responsible if you become addicted to it.
where is extended version with lines about "love letter..." I was listening MIKE radio in Boston and heard a long version that included lines "I'm not going to write you a love LETTER...." in addition to the eponymous "Love Song." Where is that extended and augmented version, pretty sure it runs past the 4:20 or so on the album.

Camp Rock-A-Mania

Camp Rock-A-Mania Ordered for my daughter, I REALLY enjoyed the upbeat songs and positive lyrics.... I found myself singing along with my daughter! Cd was ordered with ease and was sent IMMEDIATELY to our home. We have been enjoying it every since!
Camp Rock rocks As the mother of the kids listening to this album, it's pretty benign--it's not annoying or repetitive--something that parents can actually stand to listen to in the car. My three girls, 4, 6, and 9, are bananas over it.
Camp Rock Rocks!!! The Jonas Brothers are a hit on this CD, Camp Rock. My favorite songs on this CD are, 'Play My Music', Hasta Lavista, and We Rock." If you don't own this CD BUY IT NOW!!!!!

buffy

Oh, well... This Cd is alright...okay, it's awesome somehow. There are many good tracks, many funny ones and many crap ones as well. I love "Under Your Spell" by Amber Benson (Tara), she's talented, if you don't wanna buy the CD, just check out her song because it's good. The lyric is nice and all, I can definitely feel love here in this song, the video clip is also cute. Anthony's songs are good too, check them out. Sarah Michelle ain't that good at singing but she managed, so are the rest of the team. Don't like James Marsters' voice.
A must-have for Buffy fans "Once More, With Feeling" is one of the best episodes of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and certainly the best episode of the sixth season. With both the lyrics and the score concocted by Buffy auteur Joss Whedon, this soundtrack will be on your mp3 player for years to come! Also, it has four bonus tracks, the theme from three different episodes (one of them being the excellent, emotion filled "Sacrifice" by Christophe Beck) as well as a working-tape version of "Something to Sing About".
Any self-respecting Buffy fan should own this album.
excellent This is the best soundtrack recording I have ever bought! It really brings back the episode for me every time I hear it and makes me smile. I probably would have just perfered an audio track of the entire episode, with dialogue, but this is great. If you are a OMWF episode fan or just a fan of the series get this you won't be dissapointed.

Breakout

Miley Cyrus - Breakout Breakout (2008, Disney) Miley Cyrus' first studio album. ***
It's a little bit of a surprise that Miley Cyrus' first album outside of the "Hannah Montana" persona isn't awful. In fact, it's pretty good. And that's saying a lot, as teen pop has proven to be one of the worst factions of the pop and rock world, second only to Christian rock. The genre only received another blow with Katy Perry's horrific One of the Boys, a confused and contrived ordeal that was exactly what the intended audience didn't need to hear; getting wasted, sleeping with guys, and kissing chicks and liking it. Hey, experimentation is great, I understand, but the target market is middle-school girls, and there are enough poor role models for them as it is (Paris, Britney, and Lindsay, to name a few). Thankfully, Miley's album is nothing more than harmless, albeit mindless, pop sensibilities.
Every song shows one of two sides of Miley; her spunky side displayed on tunes such as the parent-defying title track or the Avril Lavigne-esque "7 Things I Hate About You," and her solemn side on cuts like "The Driveway," "Bottom of the Ocean," and "Goodbye." And while almost every track is predictable, the quality of the music itself is sometimes surprising. "The Driveway," for instance, portrays a doomed couple riding in a silent car, the awkward ride home we all know. And it's tracks like that, along with "Bottom of the Ocean," (reminiscent of Michelle Branch) that really wouldn't be half-bad if the excess was all shed in favor of an acoustic guitar or piano. It's arguably quality stuff, but since this isn't an attempt to make art, it didn't come out the way it should have. But beyond the decent material, there's plenty that's cheesy. Her cover of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" may not be great, but it certainly fits the mood and in no way separates itself from the rest of the tracks. The worst moment is "Wake Up America," a call to arms against global warming, something Miley admits to not having any knowledge about. Considering the material on the album (breakups and girls nights out) it's completely out of place. "Simple Song" features an eye-rolling "La la la la laa" part preceded by "Sing along, now!" So while Breakout is a step forward for Miley, it's still only the second step in a line of many. It's impressive that she helped pen most of these, and when she comes of age, she could be a very respected singer-songwriter. That is, of course, if she stops writing hilariously bad lines like "My parents say that I'm lazy/Gettin' up at 8AM's crazy."

Pet Sounds and OK Computer Capitol vinyl reissues

Pet Sounds and OK Computer Capitol vinyl reissues A caveat - the 5 stars are for the music. 4 for pressing!
Re: Pet Sounds and OK Computer Capitol vinyl reissues:
These are better than the abysmal (imo based on disraeli gears and tea for the tillerman) "back to black" reissues.
both the capitol reissue of ok computer and of pet sounds that i bought today are dead quiet and neither suffer from obvious digitalis. they do not sound as if they were recorded using the cd as the source, which many people have felt about the b to b pressings.
the lead vocal on pet sounds is a tiny bit on the bright side (though it may simply be more revealing of whats there - and my system is extremely revealing and cuts no slack in this direction), but it's not brittle like tea for the tillerman is in places in the b to b series. comparing this mono pet sounds to the generally well thought of 1999 mono cap reissue i am hearing slightly better defined detail and slightly increased bass. the more distinct detail may proove to be an improvement or a detrement in the long run. i have to get used to it before i'll be sure which i prefer; but i sure as heck prefer the silence of this vinyl to every pressing i've ever owned of pet sounds. its just great to hear no distracting noises during the oh so many sublime moments that Brian Wilson created for us!
this pressing of ok computer is more dynamic than my uk parlaphone which til now has been my preferred pressing. i have never been wowed by any vinyl or cd of ok c. it aint a sonic pleasure like the radio head lps that have come after it. this does not reverse that assessment of its sound quality (the recording quality of ok c is what it is), but this does seem to be an improvement, at least a bit.
certainly compared to the huge bummer that the back to black series offers, and especially as many of us have been afraid that it foretold that this was all the big record companies were prepared to offer, this comes as a positive tasting of the capitol reissue waters.
so, at first listen i'd say these will at minimum fill the void for those not having quiet (or any) copies of these titles and perhaps bring some small improvements for those lacking pristine wlp's or first pressings. of course the rest of this series may be all over the place by comparison. this is a very hopeful 1st sampling though.

thom must be my brother I love this record, its the most inspired recording of the nineties from beginning to end. Even the lyrics are really on, at times its like Thom Yorke is my long lost brother the way his mind works and the things that he's thinking about. "Exit Music" is my favorite Radiohead song because of how intense it is. A lot of this record seems to be driven by spite and bitterness but that's all good - better get that energy out in the studio then with a machine gun in a school yard. And the best way to kill someone is to shame them into killing themselves anyway right? Radiohead's smartest move has been to not even attempt to top this record and instead go and make more atmospheric, moody music; this is the peak and would be for anybody.
